Course Description:
The first part of this course engages students in exploring career and college options, developing an understanding of the college admissions process, and preparing college admissions materials. Each student develops a personal college plan consisting of research on post-secondary educational options and college characteristics that meet student’s needs, as well as college admissions materials and essays. In addition, students will investigate scholarship opportunities and learn about the financial aid process. Lastly, a minor portion of this first part of the course will be dedicated to test-taking information relating to college entrance assessments.
The second part of this course addresses issues regarding college life. Students learn effective transitioning techniques such as development of good study skills and responsibility for academic success, navigating college resources, time and organizational management, goal setting, money management, networking and involvement in college activities, living independently and managing their physical and mental well-being.
This is a 1 semester course that upon its successful completion will earn students ½ unit of high school credit.
Course Supplies:
Students are expected to bring all supplies/materials to class everyday, unless instructed otherwise. It is the students responsibility to ensure that items distributed in class are maintained in an orderly fashion and submitted for review and grading on time. If a students is absent from class, items provided during class will be placed in a designated place or given to the students at the next class that attended.
