The Business Department focuses on preparing students for college and careers. We offer courses that will help ALL students be successful in college, their careers and be prepared for the challenges of adult life. The fundamental business principles learned within our programs are required in every career field. As such, our Business Department provides students with knowledge of career readiness skills, as well as an understanding of the financial literacy, business and other 21st Century Skills they will utilize throughout their lives. We strive to meet the ever-changing interests of students so we can better prepare them for their futures. Ensuring students are “college and career-ready” has become a critical issue as concerns arise about the success of the U.S. education system and, ultimately, the country’s economic competitiveness. The discussion surrounding college readiness is generally limited to academic skills, but actual career readiness requires an even more rigorous blend of academic, technical and employability skills, and the ability to apply these skills in authentic environments. Here within the Business Department at Guilderland High School we strive to prepare students for college, the work-place and the real world! |

Hidden Hunger Hunger is often hidden, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. More than 41 million people, including 13 million children, face hunger in the United States. At the same time, 72 billion pounds of safe, wholesome food ends up in America’s landfills each year. Help Feeding America raise awareness about hunger and wasted food in America. Why does America have so many hungry kids?
Estimated number of US children in "food insecure households" in 2015: 13.1 million. A "food insecure household": Lack of access to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members. |
